WHAT WE DO

Even in the age of increasing automation, humans remain the key drivers of business performance. Human Factors has demonstrated how decisive performance gains can only be achieved by combining technological innovation with changes in the way work gets done by humans, e.g. different task allocation, design of new roles and workflows, retraining humans for the new job.

Human performance optimisation is mainly achieved by replacing the typical emphasis on technology with that of maximizing the performance of all people involved. Technology is part of the means that can be used, but it is not the only one and it does not work in isolation. Optimal Human Performance is the best (and required) driver for increased productivity, efficiency, and safety.

We have 15 years of experience in optimising Human Performance as part of innovation projects, during which we developed a large set of solutions. For instance: ready-to-go fixes to badly designed interfaces, customised observation methods to identify and reinforce best practices (and weak points), tailored interface guidelines and how-to guides, integration of HF input into various organisational processes (e.g. safety management).

User research is the cornerstone in the design of products and services that are truly user-centred.

We help organisation in understanding people, their needs and goals as situated in the context they live or work in. Once the research objectives are achieved, it is possible to drive the design process to make it produce an outcome that is actually useful, usable, accepted and enjoyed by end users.

We developed over the years a specialised experience in complex organisations – from facility management firms to international aid agencies – which are a class of their own in terms of the challenge they pose to user research, because of the multitude of stakeholders, with possibly conflicting goals, different sub-cultures and languages and own workflows. We have supported customers like government organisations, facility management firms.

We are also used to design and run user research projects in (and with) safety-critical organisations, such as air traffic control service providers, aviation and maritime companies.

WHAT WE DO

In complex socio-technical industries, safety cannot be left to the responsibility of individuals or to the protection from single errors and failures. Else, the management of safety requires at all levels a thorough understanding of the potential organizational failures from one side and of the factors of success on the other side.

In Deep Blue, we supports safety-critical organizations in different domains to establish and maintain their Safety Management Systems.

Based on our prevailing experience in the aviation domain, we comply with the provisions of the ICAO Annex 19 for the establishment of safety management systems and we maximise the integration of knowledge coming from people with different backgrounds inside each organisation, including operational, technical and safety experts.

WHAT WE DO

Deep Blue operates in contexts with high security, dependability and resilience requirements.

Current approaches to security risk management tend to underestimate, or even ignore, the human element (covering subjective, organisational, societal and economic aspects) but, on one hand, Social Engineering attacks are those generating the highest costs and impacts on organisations, while on the other hand, human resources properly trained always guarantee the best protection against security attacks.

A multidisciplinary approach combining engineering, operational expertise, risk assessment, cognitive, behavioural, societal and legal knowledge is needed to properly address the problem.

With its integrated, multidisciplinary team, Deep Blue supports the design and validation of secure, dependable, trustworthy and resilient solutions taking into account humans, their practices and procedures and the interaction with all the components of a complex socio-technical system.
