Our history

Deep Blue was founded in Rome in 2001 by Alberto Pasquini and Patrizia Marti, at the time researchers respectively at ENEA and at the University of Siena. Their desire to create a place for excellence, a research hub free of bureaucratic and administrative ties, combined with the idea of setting up a multidisciplinary team that would cooperate to express its full potential, has led to the company’s steady growth and constant expansion in new areas of research and application domains. In 2021, exactly 20 years after its foundation, Deep Blue has grown into a medium-sized company: we have created over 60 jobs, including employees and external collaborators. Our corporate structure now counts 10 shareholders.

Research and Innovation

We are curious by nature, and since the start we have contributed significantly to developing research in Europe. We have been awarded EU funding for over 85 projects (14 as coordinators), within the Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, CEF2027, CERV, DIGITAL, Erasmus+ e FP7 framework programmes (data as of December 2022, source European Commission). We are the first Italian SME (the fourth in Europe) for the number of projects carried out within the Horizon 2020 programme.

Consulting and Training

We are much more than just researchers. We believe that research can have a positive impact on society: we make our expertise available to organizations with customised consulting and training services. Thanks to our high professional standards, national and European agencies and companies rely on us every day for consultancy in the fields of transportation, health, environment, and industry.

A multidisciplinary team

Our team consists of experts with diverse educational and professional backgrounds to ensure a cross-cutting, original and inclusive approach to all our activities. We are physicists, engineers, computer scientists, psychologists, sociologists, communicators, journalists, UX designers, mathematicians and Human Factors experts. We cooperate to deliver the highest level of business for our clients. We support gender and age parity, with a balanced mix of junior and senior researchers in our staff.

Our commitment to gender equality

The Gender Equality Plan 2024-2025 (GEP 24-25) by Deep Blue is a strategic document aimed at promoting gender equality within the organization. It outlines a detailed action plan to address gender inequalities through a structural approach that includes the analysis of the socio-economic context, the assessment of internal policies, and the definition of specific objectives. The plan includes both internal and external measures, focused respectively on the well-being of employees and the promotion of gender equality within Deep Blue’s stakeholder network. The proposed actions aim to create an inclusive culture, address gender gaps at all levels, and improve gender balance and social inclusion for a better work-life balance.
