Human Factors Consultant

Are you passionate about Human Factors in complex, technology-intensive systems like aviation and transportation? Can you approach innovation from a human-centred perspective? If so, we could be your perfect match. We are looking for candidates interested in working on Human Factors research projects, within air traffic control, aviation, railways, and manufacturing.

Your role

Our Consultants work in projects aimed at designing innovative technologies, using state-of-the-art and innovative HF techniques.

Your tasks will include:

  • Analyze and model current operations via desktop research and field activities using a wide range of research methods: focus group sessions, surveys, ethnographic studies, heuristic evaluations and benchmarking.
  • Engage with end-users to define scenarios of use, expected benefits, and user requirements for new tools and processes.
  • Assess proposed designs across the different maturity stages: from low-fi prototypes to human-in-the-loop simulations, to live trials.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data and turn them into meaningful findings and practical design insights.
  • Communicate findings in effective reports, scientific papers, and video demos.
  • Design and deliver human factors training to professionals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, project partners and customers.

You should have

  • A user-centred mindset.
  • 1-3 years of relevant working experience.
  • Master’s Degree in Cognitive/Organizational Psychology, Human Factors, or related discipline. We also welcome Engineers or Computer Scientists with a high interest in Human Factors.
  • Excellent knowledge of English, written and spoken.
  • Strong communication skills, intercultural competence and customer orientation are a must.
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office tools (PPT, Word, Excel).
  • Autonomy and proactiveness in driving your own personal development and career.

Desirable

  • Interest in complex socio-technical domains (Air Traffic Control, Aviation, Railways, Manufacturing,…)
  • Previous work experience in research projects funded by the European Commission
  • PhD or scientific publications in one of the relevant disciplines

Who we are

Deep Blue applies user-centred design to transportation systems, for aircraft pilots, air traffic controllers, train drivers, and ship captains. Our current projects concern the design of human-centred Artificial Intelligence support, adaptive automation solutions, and new user interface functions.

Deep Blue is the first Italian small-medium enterprise for EU research projects. We do research, consultancy and training for aviation organisations like EUROCONTROL, IATA, Air Navigation Service Providers (like ENAV and MUAC), and the European Space Agency. We also support the design of user-centred solutions in other transportation modes and manufacturing industries.

Full Stack Developer - Internship

Are you a graduate Tech enthusiast? If you are able to embrace new projects and languages in a short amount of time, and are curious about full stack development for products used in fields like aviation, digital healthcare, and analytics, we’d like to hear from you! We are looking for talents to join our Tech team. Depending on your experience, you can start with an internship or a temporary contract and then transition to a permanent position!

DURATION: 6 months

The role – Intern

Be part of our Tech group that develops new technologies in Deep Blue, with tasks including:

  • Closely collaborating with other developers and with designers to follow UI requirements
  • Participating in the development of our software products
  • Writing high-quality backend & frontend code and docs

Basic qualifications

  • Degree (or close to degree) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline
  • Fluent English is required

  • Google Cloud App Engine (python with flask)
  • Both SQL and Nosql DBs (Postgresql and Firebase)
