TaCo defined a framework for design, development, verification and future implementation of automated tools for airports with the involvement of end-users since the beginning.

The TaCo framework gives the tower air traffic controllers the possibility of instructing automation with the rules, procedures and working methods that actually support their everyday work. The proposed framework is called “end-users programming of airport surface movements management”.

OUR ROLE:

 

Deep Blue is the project coordinator.

We contributed with our Human Factors expertise to the development of the system, providing the link between the end users (air-traffic controllers) and the system designers.

We are responsible for the organisation and conduction of the validation of the concept with the end users and external stakeholders.

Finally, Deep Blue is responsible for project communication and results dissemination.

THINGS TO KNOW:

  • Early results from TaCo indicate that the proposed solutions might be a valuable benefit for ground operations.
  • TaCo introduces strategic teamworking between human and automation to manage the main performance indexes of the airport (safety, predictability, capacity, noise/CO2 reduction).
  • The TaCo framework gives the tower air traffic controllers the possibility of instructing automation with the rules, procedures and working methods that actually support their everyday work.
